United States: In the U.S almost over 100 million people who typically may have liver disease, which mainly includes problems like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), hepatitis, and liver cancer.

While there so like so many ways to keep our liver healthy, such as eating a  proper and rich in protein balanced diet and exercising, not everyone pays attention to these kind of habits. On the flip side and also by the time some might find it challenging to change their lifestyle or may not have access to healthy food options.

 It’s important to talk to a doctor about liver health and get regular check-ups to catch any issues early!

It is termed the ‘silent epidemic; and it Is estimated that between 80m and 100m adults in the US have NAFLD. The main predisposing factor is obesity, with other metabolic risk factors comprising T2DM, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, and OSAS.

As reported by nypost,  it is also referred to as MASLD or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease based on a link between NAFLD and metabolic syndrome. Fatty liver disease increases the risk or potential of developing liver fibrosis or liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Despite such strategies as diet and exercise, avoiding alcohol have potential to prevent liver diseases, issues surface due to failure of symptoms to manifest or minimal manifestation.

The daily HuffPost reported that Dr. Bubu Banini a hepatologist and assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine said that signs and symptoms of liver disease do not present if there is no major liver damage.

Banini and other specialists claim that one should consult a doctor if the following problems occur.

The liver synthesizes proteins which the body uses to form blood clots.

If the liver is injured or not performing its routine tasks, individual’s blood clotting ability decreases, which is among the side effects, as mentioned by Cleveland Clinic.

As we saw earlier a medical professional should always attend to a change in the mental state or cognitive ability. However, according to specialists, late-stage liver failure can be another mysterious provoking agent of brain fog and other cognitive problems.

“A normal heathy individual can actually present with Acute Liver failure which can present as change in behaviour such as disorientation, confusion or even sleepiness,” said Banini to Huff Post.

In particular, hepatic encephalopathy is a brain disorder on the background of the liver disease, in accordance with Cleveland Clinic, and expert opinions that it can develop interviewing:

  • Behaviour and impulse control
  • Memory concentration and thinking
  • Consciousness lucidity and the sleep patterns
  • Coordination and the motor functions
  • Autonomy and the ability or care for yourself.
